NEW LEAF FOR LOS SANTOS SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
Our city, our people — this principle continues to guide every action undertaken by the Los Santos Sheriff's Department. As the Department enters a new period of leadership and organizational development, LSSD remains committed to professional service, operational readiness, and strengthening public trust through accountability and cooperation.

Following the recent transition in command, Sheriff Barry Martin has formally assumed leadership of the Department, joined by Undersheriff Alexander Wright. Both command staff members have outlined a clear vision focused on modernization, operational efficiency, and long-term institutional stability.

The Department also extends its sincere appreciation to former Sheriff Daryl Bratton and former Undersheriff Edward Ruates for their dedicated service and leadership. Their tenure established a foundation upon which the current administration continues to build.

DEPARTMENTAL DEVELOPMENTS

Significant organizational improvements have been implemented across multiple divisions to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure personnel are positioned for success.

The Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) has undergone substantial strengthening measures. Operational documentation has been fully reviewed and updated to reflect current procedures, personnel assignments have been realigned to place deputies in roles best suited to their experience and training, and actionable improvement plans have been introduced to maintain long-term readiness and accountability.

The Aero Bureau has now reached operational status, expanding the Department’s aerial capabilities and providing increased support for patrol operations, tactical deployments, and large-scale enforcement actions. With this development, structured pathways for divisional transfers have been formally opened, allowing qualified personnel to pursue specialized assignments and career advancement within the Department.

Within the Detective Division, a structured development plan has been established to introduce supervisory staff and strengthen investigative oversight. These measures are intended to improve case management, investigative continuity, and inter-bureau coordination.

The Traffic Service Detail is now fully operational and delivering measurable enforcement results. Increased visibility, focused traffic enforcement initiatives, and coordinated deployment strategies have resulted in improved roadway safety and a notable increase in successful enforcement outcomes.

PUBLIC TRANSPARENCY

The Los Santos Sheriff's Department remains committed to maintaining transparency with both the community and prospective personnel regarding the direction and development of the organization. As part of the Department’s continued growth, active recruitment efforts are underway for both new applicants seeking to begin a career in law enforcement and experienced external transfers wishing to continue their service within LSSD.

Command staff have placed significant emphasis on strengthening the Department’s internal foundation to ensure long-term stability and professionalism. Administrative procedures, training standards, and divisional structures are being reviewed and refined to provide deputies with a clear and structured pathway from initial appointment through specialized assignment.

These improvements are designed to allow personnel a smooth and predictable transition into their desired divisions while maintaining operational readiness across all bureaus. By ensuring that policies, supervision, and training frameworks are properly established, the Department aims to foster an environment where deputies are supported in professional development, advancement opportunities are transparent, and operational expectations remain consistent.

Through responsible expansion and careful organizational planning, the Los Santos Sheriff's Department continues to build a workforce prepared to meet the evolving needs of the community while upholding the highest standards of public service.

STATEMENT FROM SHERIFF BARRY MARTIN

Sheriff Barry Martin issued the following statement regarding the Department’s current direction and ongoing organizational developments:

“The Los Santos Sheriff's Department is entering a period of renewed focus and steady growth. My background in City Services and towing operations provided me with years of leadership experience centered on coordination, accountability, and public-facing service. Those roles required building reliable systems, managing personnel effectively, and ensuring that operations ran safely and efficiently every day — principles that directly translate into modern law enforcement leadership.

Our priority is to establish a strong and sustainable foundation for this Department. That means ensuring our deputies have clear expectations, proper supervision, and access to structured career pathways. We are working to create an organization where new recruits, experienced deputies, and external transfers alike can integrate smoothly, develop professionally, and contribute meaningfully to public safety.

I have full confidence in the men and women of this Department and in the leadership team supporting this transition. Together with our partners across Los Santos, we will continue strengthening community trust, improving operational readiness, and delivering professional service to the people we are sworn to protect.”
